8-5-2020 Update - 5:00pm

PEARL RIVER, NY August 6, 2020 1 p.m. – Electric service has been restored to more than 70 percent of the 220,000 O&R customers whose power was knocked out Tuesday by Tropical Storm Isaias.

Approximately 66,000 customers remain out of service. O&R crews, contractors and tree removal experts are working around the clock until all customers’ service is restored. The vast majority of customers who lost power are expected to have it back by Tuesday, August 11 at 11 p.m.

From the Tax Department…..

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the State of New Jersey and the County of Bergen will not be certifying new tax rates at this time. Therefore, the Borough of Montvale will be sending out estimated tax bills for the 3RD QUARTER ONLY. Your final tax bill for the 2020 tax year will be mailed later this Fall.

Regarding Recent Concerns about Affordable Housing Changes

I have received numerous questions concerning President Trump’s recent announcement that he is rescinding the “Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing” (“AFFH”) rule and whether that affects the Borough’s affordable housing or “Mount Laurel” obligation. The short answer is “no.”  However, it is important to understand the difference between the AFFH rule and the Mount Laurel doctrine, and the ways in which each could affect the Borough.
